How to make extra money in self publishing creating digital electronic books for the Amazon Kindle
If you are someone who enjoys writing as a hobby, for personal pleasure, or maybe you are a pro and on your way to being a well known Author? Who knows, surely the thought at some time has entered your mind, “I would like to get paid to do this”, If so, you really should look into Amazon.com. Lots of new writers are surprised to find out that Amazon.com has a self-publish option for their popular digital ebook reading device called the the Kindle, the latest version being the Kindle 2 ereader.
If you consider writing an electronic book version that you can sell on the Amazon Kindle Store, you have two options. You can create a book from scratch, or you can use one that you have already written that you retain the rights to, I.E. you own the copyrights. To increase your earnings, I would encourage you to do both. Then you can profit from your old how-to books sitting around on your computer and I think you will be pleasantly surprised, you may see how easy it is to realize your dreams these days using this excellent technology. Maybe you have a flare for romance, and you have always dreamed of writing a romance novel. What could be better, after all there can always be room for more love in this world.
One of the first steps in getting into this new way of self publishing and seeing profits come your way, is brought to you by Amazon, and the Kindle book store. The first step is to write your own works. You can go and review the Amazon Kindle Store at Amazon.com. This will enable you to scout out the competition, sort of spy on them so to speak. There are literally hundreds of thousands of Kindle Books that are available for sale. Just choose a how-to topic that you have an interest in, choose one that is unique on the website. If you have a creative flare, just write from the what is in your heart. The result is usually something that turns out ot be a unique novel with a captivating storyline.
Next after you compose your electronic book using a word processing program like word or converting it from a text document to a PDF, make sure you proofread your work and edit it as needed. As a matter of fact, make sure you do it many times, because even the best writers make mistakes.
The books for sale on the Amazon Kindle Store are subject to reviews, so if it is crap you will hear about it. A good book that holds the interest of the reader, and that has little to no errors should result in your works getting positive reviews from the readers. The reviews that your books receive are key to your success, so don’t underestimate them, these days business must listen to their customers, because the customers actually drive the direction of business these days. Don’t listen to your customers and see what happens. An Kindle ebook with poor reviews will limit your sales, and affect your profitability. Face it, no one wants to buy a bad book. IIf you do you feel cheated you want to get a refund; and refunds for the seller are not good.
Once your book is ready to be self-published, move to the next step. Visit the Amazon website, at Amazon.com. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, Click on the “Self-Publish with Us,” link and choose the Amazon Kindle Kindle 2. You will then be directed to the Amazon digital text platform; register, or log into your account. Once logged in you will be on the dashboard, click to view your shelf and add a new item.
When you Prepare one of your books for sale using the Kindle self-publishing option, the process is broken down into three easy steps. Step one is to provide an accurate description of the book. Complete all the fields. Write a title for your book, with your name as the author, and then write a detailed description. If you happen to be selling a how-to guide, make sure that you highlight a few steps or topics that you have covered in the book. If you are selling a creative work of fiction, maybe your genre is in the paranormal, books like the Twilight series, make sure you summarize your storyline and introduce the main characters.
Once you have completed the product details, move onto the next step. In step two you will be uploading and previewing your e-book documents. In order for your book to be compatible with the Amazon Kindle, all books must be in a digital text format. Browse on your computer to find the text, word, HTML, or PDF. What happens next is during the upload process, these files are converted into a digital text format. Now the last part of step two is to preview your digital text file. Proofread your e-book again and be on the lookout for formatting issues, alter any errors that you may find as needed.
Finally once your digital text files have been properly uploaded and converted, you can move onto the next step. Here in step three you will be setting the selling price. If you haven’t already poked around on Amazon’s Kindle Book Store, do that, get started with that now. Really there are thousands of books available for Kindle, and Kindle 2 users. This business is charted to grow very well now and in the years to come. As more consumers search for more and more ways to live an eco-friendly lifestyle, and enjoy the convenience of reading their favorite books and publications without all of the paper this trend will prove to be the leading edge of a pardiagm shift in the ways people read and enjoy media.
To note, a Kinlde reader application has been released for the iPhone, and I believe the itouch as well, so you know how many 3G network internet enabled handheld devices there are out there , and will be growing in the future. The opportunity is huge.
Back to getting your book on Amazon, your book will be one of many. Place some importance on a nice graphic for your book cover and a detailed product description, they will set your book apart from others. New first time authors, typically charge less than ten dollars for their books. Again, how-to books are typically shorter in length; therefore, they should cost less.
Once you have set the selling price, click on the “Publish,” link. Now the digital version of your ebook is ready to go and properly formatted for the Amazon Kindle. Usually within 24 hours, your book will be listed for sale on the Kindle book store at Amazon.
